Whether you're from the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia or elsewhere, having updated information on passports, tourist fees, e-Tickets, and documentation ensures a smooth arrival.

Passport Essentials: Validity, Return Ticket & Address Requirements 🛄

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay, unless you’re from a listed country with an exceptional rule.

An exceptional validity rule applies for tourists from the U.S., Canada, U.K., EU countries, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador.

In those cases, passports only need to be valid for the duration of the stay through November 30, 2025.

You must also present a round-trip (or onward) ticket during check-in.

Airlines are required to verify this, and failure to comply may result in denied boarding.

Additionally, you should know or have the address where you’ll stay in the Dominican Republic, and be ready to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your visit.

No Visa Needed—for Many 🆓🛂

Most travelers—including those from the U.S., Canada, U.K., EU, Japan, and many Latin American and Asian countries—can visit Punta Cana for tourism up to 30 days without a visa.

If your nationality requires it, you will need to obtain a visa in advance from a Dominican consulate.

Tourist Fee & Departure Tax: Typically Covered in Your Ticket 💵

A tourist fee, commonly known as a tourist card, is required for entry.

In almost all cases, this fee is included automatically in your airfare.

Upon departure, there is also a departure tax, usually included in your airline ticket.

Still, it’s smart to double-check with your airline to avoid surprises.

Mandatory E-Ticket: Your Digital Entry Form 💻

All travelers on commercial flights—foreign or Dominican—must complete the free electronic entry/exit form (E-Ticket) before arriving at the airport (official e-ticket form).

You no longer need to do it 72 hours before travel.

Instead, complete it as soon as you have your flight details, though it must be done before check-in.

For families traveling together, one person can fill out the form and include up to six additional family members.

Customs Allowances: What You Can Bring 🎁

You are welcome to bring personal items within these allowances without paying duties:

• Up to 20 packs of cigarettes, or 25 cigars, or 200 g of tobacco
• Up to 3 liters total of alcohol (wine, beer, rum, whiskey, etc.)
• Gifts valued up to USD 500 per person every three months
• Personal medications (must show prescription for psychotropic drugs)

If you’re carrying more than USD 10,000 in cash, you must declare it.

Extend or Overstay: Stay Legal 🕒

If you wish to extend your stay beyond the 30-day visa-free period, you must apply through the Migration Department in Santo Domingo.

Overstaying without authorization may result in fines.

Fines are structured approximately as follows:

• Up to 1-day overstay: RD$1,000 (about USD 15)
• 1–30 days overstay: RD$5,000 (about USD 85)
• More than 30 days: RD$5,000 per month or part thereof
